Steam Remote Downloads Now Available Online

Available immediately, users’ Steam library of games can now be managed remotely via the web. With an active Steam client running on the remote PC or Mac, users may log into the Steam web site or mobile app to access and manage their library of games, downloading pre-loads, new releases, or their latest purchases, as soon as they’re available. Head home to find your new downloads installed and ready to play upon arrival.

To kick off a remote download, simply visit your Games list on the Steam Community site, which can be accessed from your own profile using a web browser or the Steam mobile app on iOS or Android. If logged into the latest update of the Steam client on a PC or Mac, there you’ll see which games are currently installed, and have the ability to install others from your library. Or, seamlessly complete your online purchase with remote installation: When a remote session is detected, the Steam store will ask whether you’d like to download your new purchases immediately.

I recently bought a Sega Dreamcast recently and the first game I bought for it was a copy of Shenmue. Shenmue was such a great game that I ended up completing it in about five days. I will say that the story was great. That said, I will not want to spoil the story for anyone but I will list the pros and cons of the game.

Pros:

The story is great. It’s vaguely reminiscent of watching the old, hokey, Godzilla movies.
The graphics are amazing. For an early-generation 3d console, the visuals don’t disappoint.
Lots of side-quests. From collecting capsule toys, unlocking additional cut-scenes that add to the story, to additional QTEs (quick time events), there’s a lot you can do.
Free Battle. Arcade-style but-kicking. Learn different moves to better yourself in combat. It’s fun!

Cons:

The waiting. You have to wait for certain times in the game just to progress. Sometimes you just don’t want to wait until 7:00pm.
Capsule toy collecting is fun if you have the cash to blow on them, I was to busy buying move scrolls.
If you’re not a big fan of the old Godzilla movies the voice-acting in Shenmue is quite atrocious.

At the end of the day I give Shenmue a 4 out of 5.

Operation Rainfall Begins Campaigning For Pandora’s Tower

OpRain has officially begun its mass contact petitions for NoA to release the game in the North American region starting today, April 13th. There will be another mass contact day coming in May, but continuous efforts of reaching out to Nintendo will be encouraged for the next month in particular.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Operation Rainfall, a fan-based campaign for the international localization of critically acclaimed Nintendo titles, is proud to announce Pandora’s Tower Month.

Pandora’s Tower, a Wii-exclusive title developed by Ganbarion and published byNintendo in Europe, Japan, and Australia, is the final title of the Operation Rainfall campaign. Pandora’s Tower is an action/adventure RPG that blends elements found in Castlevania, The Legend of Zelda, and God of War. The game also features a relationship system that involves freeing your beloved from a terrible curse by feeding her the flesh of the beasts you slay within the game’s thirteen towers. WhilePandora’s Tower certainly doesn’t have the same developer pedigree as Xenoblade Chronicles or The Last Story, it is welcome breath of fresh air for mature gamers on Nintendo’s Wii console.

Pandora’s Tower Month will begin April 13, 2012 and will end on May 11, 2012. The month will consist of two mass contact days (April 13^th, and May 11^th) as well as videos, pictures, and music related to Pandora’s Tower. Our goal for the month is not so much a forced announcement or forced localization, but rather to show Nintendo of America that their fans are interested in this game and it would be in their benefit to publish Pandora’s Tower in America or let another publisher do it for them. We will also be attempting to pitch the title to various publishers who have been responsible for the localization of similar titles on Nintendo consoles.

Industry Analyst Michael Pachter Says Used Games Are Necessary For Next Gen Of Systems

You know all of those rumors going around saying the next XBox will have no disc tray? Or how the PS4 won’t allow you to play used games since you wouldn’t be able to authenticate them or something along those lines? Industry analyst and managing director of Wedbush Securities Michael Pachton says that the rumors are “so stupid as to be laughable.”

“Unless you believe in collusion – unless you believe that all the console manufacturers are going to get together and scheme to screw the consumer, and at least in the U.S. we have laws against that, so probably none of them would do that – then if one of them did that unilaterally (any one of those things), the others would say, “Hey wait a minute, we have a disc drive. Ours will play used games. Buy ours instead of there’s.’

“[It’s] not happening. Not even a prayer of that.”

Pachter also thinks that the sheer number of gamers who deal in the used games market – or would at least appreciate the right to do so – is too large to freeze out.

“No used games: Stupid.”

Though he’s not an official spokesperson for any party involved, his stance is typically regarded as the standard, and his example of a competitor using the used game market (which is huge, as most of you know) is also a mostly unheard point to be made about the industry.

He’s right, but he’s also a hack. His predictions have been less than stellar for the last few years.

The Consumerist’s Worst Company in America of 2012: Voters Say EA

After over 250,000 votes were pulled in, The Consumerist, a large business-oriented website that offers news to the everyday consumer, has officially branded the worst company of 2012: Electronic Arts. EA was a finalist alongside Bank of America and won out against other companies such as Comcast, UPS, Chase, Verizon, PayPal, and AT&T.

The overall message that this vote delivers?

Now, after years of being ignored and relegated to steerage, game-players have voted to send a message to Electronic Arts and the gaming business as a whole: Stop treating your loyal customers like crap.

The website also offered a heap of the gaming industry’s related faults (with some quick jabs at the company most responsible):

To those who might sneer at something as “non-essential” as a video game company winning the Worst Company In America vote: It’s that exact kind of attitude that allows people to ignore the complaints as companies like EA to nickel and dime consumers to death.

For years, while movies and music became more affordable and publishers piled on bonus content — or multiple modes of delivery — as added value to entice customers to buy, video games have continued to be priced like premium goods.

There have even been numerous accusations that EA and its ilk deliberately hold back game content with the sole intent of charging a fee for it at a later date. It’s one thing to support a game with new content that is worth the price. It’s another to put out an inferior — and occasionally broken — product with the mindset of “ah, we’ll fix it later and make some money for doing so.”

New, independent game companies do pop up all the time, but the cost of entering the market has historically been too expensive, making these indie innovators prime targets for acquisition by mega-publishers like EA. Our hope is that the growth of app-based gaming and downloadable games will continue to make it easier for developers to get their products out without the backing of companies that don’t care a lick about the people who fork over their cash.

Oh well, Worst Company In America 2012 is officially in the books. All that’s left to do is send off the Golden Poo to EA.

Traditionally, the Poo has been delivered on its little red pillow. But this year, we’ll give EA three different color options for its pillow, though in the end it’s still the same old Poo.

Pay attention, EA and other game companies. Your new policies of nickel and diming your loyal customers have been recognized not just by gamers, but by the entire business industry and consumers worldwide, casual and hardcore alike.

Perhaps the new attention will finally sway some bigger name titles and policies to change for the better of all of us.
